Expected Housing Checklist

Safe, secure environment away from other pets
Enclosure with adequate space for guinea pig housing
Solid flooring with appropriate bedding (no wire floors)
Clean, dry bedding changed regularly
A hide shelter and wooden chews must be provided
Temperature kept in a safe range (avoid heat/cold extremes)
Housing kept indoors, away from predators

Expected Care Checklist

Daily loving care and interaction.
Daily observation for health and behavior changes
Regular cage cleaning and routine bedding change
Nail trims and basic grooming as needed
Access to a qualified exotic/guinea pig veterinarian
Prompt veterinary care for illness or injury
Gentle handling and appropriate supervision (especially with children)
Guinea pig companionship considered (not housed alone unless approved)

Expected Companionship

Agrees to provide companionship (either an existing guinea pig or adoption of a bonded pair)
Agrees to a strict no-breeding policy under any circumstances, accidental or intentional.

Life Expectancy

The adopter understands that guinea pigs can live 5–8 years and agrees to provide lifelong care.
If at any point the adopter is unable to care for the guinea pig, they agree to return the guinea pig to LSAF.

The adopter further agrees that: - Guinea pigs will not be bred at any time  - Guinea pigs will not be housed with intact (unneutered/unspayed) opposite-sex guinea pigs  - LSAF will not adopt out a female guinea pig to a home with an intact male guinea pig  - LSAF will not adopt out a male guinea pig to a home with an intact female guinea pig - If the adopter wishes to adopt a male/female bonded pair, the pair will only be placed together if the male guinea pig is confirmed neutered by LSAF or a verified veterinary source prior to adoption. - Any violation of this policy may result in immediate reclamation of the animal. - The guinea pig may not be rehomed, sold, or given away without prior approval.
